The Imposition of Ashes for Ash Wednesday

Dear fellow-penitent,

Ash Wednesday is February 17. Once again, we will be observing the Imposition of Ashes. Considering COVID-19 precautions, we will be administering the ashes differently. Hence the reason for this letter and the enclosed ashes and towelette. I encourage you to read the rest of this letter to learn about the historical practice of the Imposition of Ashes and how we will observe the Imposition of Ashes – whether at home or at our Ash Wednesday evening service. You can print additional copies of the Rite of the Imposition of Ashes for other people in your home who may be worshipping with you.
